Within my Art and Design GCSE, I responded to the title 'Messages' prioritising the message of Sustainable Fashion, as it was always a key aim to embed fashion-related research into my creative projects. Sustainable fashion was a key focus at it not only allowed me to raise awareness throughout my creative outcomes and responses. I was also able to focus on the groups of individuals effected: paying particular attention to the social agenda. My main point of research developed onto child labour supported by photographing one of my peers.

This photoshoot here represents my message drawing connections of sustainability and ethics within the manufacturing sector of the supply chain. I created an exaggerated needle using wire and thread to almost glamorize my theme as seen throughout my artist references. Looking back now, as I have had the opportunity to learn more regarding sustainable fashion, this could also infer the lack of honesty and transparency within the fashion industry. I also paid close attention to the main consistent colour palette of red. This suggested themes of not only danger but also urgency supporting my aim of awareness, which was later supported with factual elements being used in my outcomes as a form of typography. I decided to set the shoot in a natural environment creating a juxtaposition between the red-based styled outfit and the needle reference. This juxtaposition is important as here I not only wanted to draw attention to the social impacts of unsustainable manufacturing but also the environmental impacts, both of which are heavily supported by the fashion industry. The environmental agenda is seen with the physical composition of the needed being held against a tree. This almost fictionalises the environmental impacts allowing a threat to be clearly understood. The use of plastics as well, such as plastic bags within my compositions, linked to themes of not only manufacturing consequences but also the consequences of garment disposal; typically traced back to the mass consumption of fast fashion and is not held accountable as often.
